Ponte Sant'Angelo bridge in RomeWhere to Stay in Rome Pre- or Post Cruise?

One of the world’s great cities, Rome’s history and culture entice visitors from every corner of the globe.

With stunning tourist sites and unforgettable dining experiences, this large city has something for everyone.

Where you stay in Rome often depends on your budget and personal preferences. The closer you are to the Centro Storico or historic center, the more expensive the accommodation.

Yet, the lively heart of Rome offers the best way to experience this ancient city and is the most popular choice for travelers who are taking a cruise to or from Rome.

Staying close to the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori and Spanish Steps puts you in the middle of Rome’s most famous places.

Along with being within walking distance of major destinations including the Vatican, you are close to great dining options.

Outside Centro, Trastevere is another popular place to stay. Although further from the city’s main sights, the neighborhood is home to the Belvedere del Gianicolo and bustling squares like Piazza di San Calisto and Piazza Santa Maria.

Trastevere also offers a bohemian vibe with artisan shops, inviting trattorias, and craft beer pubs.

Several hotels are based around Termini station, Rome’s main train station. Numerous subway lines and bus routes meet at the station, offering a convenient base for exploring the rest of this unforgettable city.

There are frequent trains to Civitavecchia from Termini, where shuttles link train passengers with the cruise port.

Rome Hotels with Shuttle to Cruise Port

While there are no hotels in Rome with a shuttle service to Civitavecchia, most hotels can arrange private transfers to and from the port.

We can advise you to book a hotel based on location, guest reviews, price and other personal preferences rather than to focus on hotel shuttles.

Generally, a transfer will cost around 130 Euro for two people. You can easily book such a transfer yourself.

While this is the most expensive way to travel between Rome and Civitavecchia, private transfers deliver door-to-door service in comfort for a hassle-free experience.

Shared shuttles are also possible and can be booked using popular travel sites like Expedia. Costs are typically a third of a private transfer. Cruise lines may also arrange private transfers to and from your hotel, but are quite expensive.

The most affordable way to travel between the port and Rome is by train. Trains tickets start only from 4.60 euro each way. Prices for the quicker Frecciabianca trains begin at 12.90 euro.

If you do not mind handling your own bags and traveling to and from stations, the train is affordable and connect the port with Rome in an hour or less.
