PORT OF NEW ORLEANS

Hotels near New Orleans Cruise Port (Shuttle & Walkable Options)

Last Updated on December 31, 2024 – Posted by Stefan DP

New Orleans St Louis CathedralNew Orleans is one of the most convenient cruise ports in the United States when it comes to pre-cruise hotel stays.

Both the Erato Street and Julia Street cruise terminals are located directly in downtown, near the Convention Center and Warehouse District.

Because of this central location, several hotels are within easy walking distance of the terminals. In most cases, you won’t need a shuttle at all.

A short walk, taxi, or Uber ride of just a few minutes is usually sufficient.

That said, some travelers specifically search for hotels with a free cruise shuttle. In reality, only a very limited number of properties offer one. For most passengers, choosing the right area and understanding the transfer options matters more than finding a hotel advertising a shuttle.

Below, we focus on the hotels that make practical sense before a cruise: walkable options, the few realistic shuttle solutions, and select properties offering cruise parking packages.

Which Cruise Terminal Does Your Cruise Use?

New Orleans operates two cruise terminals: the Erato Street Cruise Terminal and the Julia Street Cruise Terminal. Both are located next to each other along the Mississippi River, near the Convention Center and Warehouse District.

Carnival typically sail from Erato Street, while Royal Caribbean and Norwegian usually use Julia Street. Because the terminals sit side by side, hotel location logistics are almost identical for both.

For most downtown hotels, the distance to either terminal is only a short walk or a quick taxi ride.

Do Any Hotels Offer a Free Cruise Shuttle?

Free cruise shuttle service is rare in New Orleans. Because the cruise terminals are located directly in downtown, most hotels are close enough that a shuttle simply isn’t necessary.

At the moment, only one downtown property is known for offering a complimentary cruise transfer for guests. Availability and scheduling should always be confirmed directly with the hotel before arrival, as shuttle services can change.

For many travelers, choosing a hotel within walking distance or taking a short Uber ride is often simpler than relying on a scheduled shuttle.

Hampton Inn and Suites New Orleans Convention Center

This is currently the only downtown hotel regularly associated with a complimentary cruise shuttle. The property is located near the Convention Center, within a short distance of both the Erato and Julia Street terminals.

Even though the port is close enough to walk for many guests, the shuttle can be helpful for travelers with heavier luggage. As always, it’s recommended to confirm shuttle timing and availability directly with the hotel.

Walkable Hotels Near the Cruise Terminals

Because both cruise terminals are located in downtown New Orleans, several hotels are within comfortable walking distance of the port. For most passengers, staying in the Convention Center or Warehouse District eliminates the need for a shuttle entirely.

Walking times typically range from 5 to 15 minutes depending on luggage and exact terminal assignment. For travelers who prefer not to walk, a short Uber or taxi ride usually takes only a few minutes.

Hilton New Orleans Riverside

Hilton Riverside is one of the closest large hotels to the cruise terminals, particularly convenient for sailings from Julia Street. The property is located along the Mississippi River near the Riverwalk, and many guests choose to walk to the port on embarkation morning.

The hotel offers a dedicated Cruise Package that includes discounted self-parking and late checkout, which can be beneficial for drive-in passengers. Walking time to the terminal is typically between 5 and 10 minutes, depending on ship assignment.

Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Convention Center

Hilton Garden Inn is located near the Convention Center and within walking distance of both cruise terminals. Many guests choose to walk to the port, which typically takes around 10–15 minutes.

Directly across the street from the hotel, Fulton Parking offers independent cruise parking with shuttle service to the terminal. This can be a practical option for travelers driving to New Orleans who prefer not to use the official port garage.

Hyatt Place New Orleans Convention Center

Hyatt Place sits near the Convention Center area, offering straightforward access to both cruise terminals. Walking time is typically around 10–12 minutes depending on pace and luggage.

Its downtown location makes it a practical option for a simple one-night pre-cruise stay.

The Mercantile Hotel

Located in the Warehouse District, The Mercantile Hotel sits within walking distance of both cruise terminals. The property is frequently chosen by cruise passengers because of its proximity to the port and nearby restaurants.

The hotel also offers cruise parking packages, which can be practical for travelers driving to New Orleans. From the hotel, the cruise terminal can typically be reached on foot in around 10–15 minutes.

Hotels with Cruise Parking & Shuttle Packages

For travelers driving to New Orleans, a hotel that includes extended parking can sometimes be more practical than using the official port garage. While most downtown hotels focus on walkable access, a small number of properties offer structured cruise parking packages.

The Mercantile Hotel, mentioned above, provides parking packages within walking distance of the terminals, a simple solution for those who prefer to stay downtown.

Best Western Plus Westbank

Located across the Mississippi River in the West Bank area, this hotel is not within walking distance of the cruise terminals. However, it is frequently chosen by drive-in passengers because of its cruise parking package.

Packages typically include extended parking and shuttle transportation to the cruise port on embarkation morning. Because of its location outside downtown, transfer times are longer than from Convention Center hotels, but pricing can be competitive compared to port parking rates.

This property works best for travelers prioritizing bundled parking and transfer convenience rather than proximity to the city center.
