King’s Wharf Cruise Pier

Cruise ships in Bermuda can dock at three different locations:

  • King’s Wharf & Heritage Wharf (Royal Naval Dockyard)
  • Hamilton City Port
  • St George’s Port

The largest and most ships of Royal Caribbean dock at the Heritage cruise pier within the Royal Naval Dockyard complex, which was once a base of the English Royal Navy in the early 19th century. Nowadays it had become a major tourist destination on the island. King’s Wharf is an older berth for ships located just next to the Heritage terminal, also within the Royal Naval Dockyard. Any larger ship from companies like Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC, Carnival Cruises and Royal Caribbean will most likely be docking here.

Only small to medium size ships can dock at the Port of Hamilton in Bermuda, which is the island’s capital city and centrally located. Cruise ships dock right at Front Street, the main street of Hamilton with lots of shops and small restaurants. Smaller ships of Azamara and Oceania may port at Hamilton city. From the ferry port, which is at the western end of Front Street, there’s a direct connection by ferry to the dockyard.

Port of St George’s is located at St George’s Harbor, which is located at the north-eastern end of the island. Only small to medium-sized ships can moor here from companies such as Silversea, Viking Cruises and Oceania Cruises. The area is home to some of the oldest buildings and streets on Bermuda.

LF Wade International Airport is located at the former US Naval Air Station. A bridge connects the airport with the largest island. The five largest islands are connected by bridges. An important factor for tourism. Bermuda has only 1 motorway or main road that runs all over the island. The island’s main transport is boats. Flights from US cities such as New York and Boston take only just over two hours.

At the end of July / beginning of August there is an annual 2-day competition ‘Cup Match’, an official holiday which the community enjoys a two-day celebration of camping, swimming, boating and especially the popular sport of cricket. The cricket match is played by 2 cricket clubs, Somerset Cricket club (Bermuda) and St George’s Cricket club (Saint George).

The Newport Bermuda Race takes place every two years. The oldest organized ocean sailing competition with start in Newport (Rhode Island) and finish in Hamilton, also the capital of Bermuda.
