The port area is not only suitable for hotels and overnight accommodation but also for a swimming experience off the beaten track. Within fifteen minutes on foot from the cruise port, past Faliraki, you can reach the Old Fort with its tiny coves where local residents swim and relax in the sky blue sea water. From here the sea views are great and truly picturesque.

You can admire the passage of cruise ships and ferries to and from the terminal, enjoy a good swim and mingle with the locals. This is why it pays to stay local to the Corfu port area, where deals are cheap and the landscape and beaches less busy.

The island of Corfu is situated in the north western part of Greece, where the Adriatic Sea meets the north Ionian Sea. Cruise ships depart or arrive at Neo Limani (New Port), which is close to Corfu Town (locally known as Kerkyra) located on the east side of the island.

Corfu Town is the home port for many cruise itineraries into the Eastern Mediterranean. Major cruise lines departing from the port are Marella Cruises and AIDA. The Mediterranean cruise season runs from late April to late October.

There are also frequent links by ferry from Corfu Town to Italy, Greece and Albania. Ferry operators include Grimaldi Lines, Kerkyra Lines, Kerkyra Seaways, Finikas Lines and Anek Lines.

When stepping off a cruise ship

From the Corfu port terminal, visitors stepping off a cruise ship can often take advantage of a free bus that can take them to the centre of the old Corfu town or Kerkyra.

The ship terminal is conveniently located for an ample selection of hotels, too. Upon leaving the passport control area, there are several options for tourist deals and offers, from cheap island accommodation, local hotels and tour guides to scooter rental offices.

It is extremely straightforward and cheap, if not free, to reach the Town from the ferry and cruise ship terminal if so desired, but it pays to stay in the terminal area, too.

Visitors should head for the Greek fortress, the Casa Parlante and the evocative, scenic British cemetery. For a moment of relaxation, head to the beaches such as Issos, or to the Spianada plaza for a breather and some seriously tasty Greek style coffee.

Corfu International Airport (IATA : CFU)– Corfu International or Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport is the nearest international airport located approx. 3km or 2mi south the centre of Corfu Town, hotels and the cruise port (10 minutes).

You can easily get to your hotel by taxi or local bus. The taxi rank is located outside the terminal building.
