Where to Stay?

Holidaymakers have long been heading to the port of Kusadasi on the Aegean coast of Turkey to soak up the sun and explore historic sites. The ferry port was renovated in 2003 and now has an impressive cruise terminal, Scala Nuovo, that houses many shops and restaurants itself.

Approximately 600 cruise ships dock in Kusadasi each year, making it the most popular cruise destination in Turkey, and bringing a valuable tourist trade to the area. Plenty of hotels can be found within easy reach of the cruise and ferry port terminals.

For visitors hoping to stay overnight, there are some great deals to be found and making reservations online in advance on www.allcruisehotels.com is always a good idea. There is a wide and varied range of accommodation to choose from and options to suit any budget or taste.

Along the seafront from the cruise terminal, there are many large resort type hotels that typically feature big outdoor pools, spas, fitness centres and other amenities, as well as the usual things you would expect from an all-inclusive experience, such as room service, parking, free internet and a selection of bars, restaurants and lounges. While you may think that this type of hotel isn’t cheap, there are great value deals to be found, especially out of season.

Cape Yilanci is a popular area with lots of lively bars, clubs and live music venues along the waterfront strip. There are private beaches here by day that become open to the public through these venues by night.

For cruise and ferry passengers looking for something a little more quiet or off the beaten track, there are cheap deals to be had by moving a bit further in from the coast to some of the older parts of the town. Kaleici is called the old town and visitors can find great deals on bed and breakfasts, often called pensions, or apart hotels that are half board or self catering in this area. While it’s a bit less busy than the seafront here, there is still plenty of life. Among the maze of stone streets, Turkish bars serving traditional food and drink and playing Turkish music can be found here.

Finally, there are also well known chain hotels that people visiting Kusadasi as a pre or post cruise for business by ferry or air will find accommodating.

Ephesus, beach and Pigeon Island

Aside from the 300 days of sunshine a year, another draw is the proximity to the ancient site of Ephesus.

Considered to be one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the ruins include the Temple of Artemis which is estimated to have been erected in the year 550 BC. Ephesus is only about 20km away, so makes for a great day trip or guided tour for anyone on a cruise docking in Kusadasi.

The most popular area for beach lovers is Kadinlar Denizi, known as Ladies Beach, which lies about 2.5km south of Kusadasi.

The beach is long and sandy and the waters are crystal clear, making this a great spot for sunbathers and swimmers.

For those less inclined to get sand between their toes, a visit to Pigeon Island to see the flower gardens is highly recommended.
