Vessels dock at either Puerta Caldera or Puntarenas harbors, both ports are approx. 12 miles apart or 20 minutes away from each other. The passenger pier in Puntarenas is located in the center of the city. You’ll find shops, restaurants, and drinks. The beach is nearby.

Puerto Caldera is a commercial port. There’s nothing much to do nearby.

Main cruiselines operating from the port are Windstar Cruises and Star Clippers. Itineraries take you to the wonders of Costa Rica and through the Panama Canal to Colon. Puntarenas or Puerto Caldera is also a popular stop on sailings departing from San Diego, Los Angeles San Pedro or Long Beach California which sail through the Panama Canal to Miami in Florida or even New York City (see hotels).
